| ABOUT
LEE FROST Lee
Frost was born 1966 and became interested in photography at the
age of 15. A keen hiker and backpacker at the time, he was immediately
attracted to landscape photography and although this remains
a passion for which he is perhaps best-known, he loves the art
of creating imaginative images and is happy to do so regardless
of the subject.
In
1988, while still an amateur, Lee won a travel photography competition
and this marked the start of his professional career. A year on
he was appointed as features writer of SLR Photography magazine,
then became part of a small team which launched the successful
magazine Photo Answers. In 1992, after
working as assistant editor on both Photo Answers and Practical
Photography,
he decided to pursue a freelance career.
That same year, Lee was commissioned
to write his first book - Teach Yourself Photography.
Others quickly-followed, including the best-selling A-Z
of Creative Photography ; Taking
Pictures for Profit; The Complete
Guide to Night and Low-Light Photography; Personal
Views: The Art of Colour Landscape Photography;
The Photographer's Guide to Filters, The
Creative Photography Handbook and Lee
Frost's Simple Art of Black & White Photography.
He has also illustrated books on Northumbria and Dartmoor. His
latest book, Lee Frost's Panoramic Photography was
published in April 2005 and he is currently working on his latest
title - The A-Z of Creative Digital Photo Techniques -
which will be published in 2006. His books have been translated
into German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean and
Chinese, as well as selling widely throughout the English-speaking
world.
Lee is also a regular contributor to various photographic magazines including Photography
Monthly, Outdoor Photography, Black & White Photography, Digital
Camera Magazine and The Photographer, the magazine of the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP). He has written hundreds of articles and interviewed almost as many professional and enthusiast photographers over the last 15 years and his practical, easy-to-understand style has won great acclaim.
When he's not writing about photography, Lee can be found practising what he preaches. His first love is landscape photography, and having settled with his family on the coast of North Northumberland, he is happiest wandering along deserted beaches at dawn and dusk, producing inspiring images of breathtaking scenery.
He
does this using a range of film formats, including 35mm, 6x7cm, 35mm panoramic,
6x17cm panoramic and more recently 5x4in, choosing whatever format he
feels is best-suited to the task in hand. Most work is in colour, but
he also enjoys shooting in black & white and prints all his own work using
traditional techniques.
